I really loved historic Savannah. Can you believe the city is nearly 300 years old. The trees are so huge and lush and the architecture rich. The Historic District is a 24 block grid – and every other block is a park – the WHOLE block. There are parks everywhere all blooming with azaleas, historical statuary, fountains – and the bench where Forest Gump sat! This was the time of year to be here as the azaleas were in full bloom.
The city is quite hip with the REALLY great shops and the newest of style. And, the Savannah River which runs along it marks the border between Georgia and S. Carolina. The bridge which carries you over is an architecturally significant structure, especially when you are driving over it. The pictures here do not do it justice. The favorite dish here is shrimp and grits. Really delicious.

This is where the Savannah folk beach, Tybee Island. It marks the official end of Hwy. 80 which begins in San Diego.
We loved our jungle home here at Skidawy Island. We spent a lot of time just hanging out, hiking its many trails and enjoying the perfect 75 degree weather. Soooo… there are way too many photos of its marshes, live oaks that were bursting with new growth, cabbage palms and pines which red headed woodpeckers pecking up a storm.
Tomorrow we drive over the incredible Talmadge Bridge to head an hour north to Hilton Head Island where we will stay for ten days before we head to Charleston.
